Moirai
Unspooled by Clotho
Red thread through the needle’s eye
Of our two broken hearts
I writhe in ecstasy as we knot and tangle
Inextricable
Wrapped in spider silk
Bathed in river water
Licked with flame
Our two threads encircled each other
In motions parallel
Too soon yet to converge
Fate and time dancing together
Until until
Until Lachesis dreamed/deemed us worthy
We wove ourselves together
Rich tapestry of becoming
I feel our web stretch through planes of time
Vibrations I can’t yet make sense of
Pulse through my body
Atropos, I beg you
Forget us for a while
No time could be long enough
With her hand wrapped in mine
The Fates (Moirai) Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos were three sisters and divinities in Greek mythology who presided over human life. Together, the Fates represented the inescapable destiny of humanity. The Fates were divine beings who personified the birth, life, and death of humankind. Clotho spun the red ‘thread’ of human fate, Lachesis dispensed it, and Atropos cut the thread; determining the individual’s moment of death.
