About us
Riverstone Literary Journal is an online and print literary journal founded in 2022 by Lucy Wylie. Riverstone is edited by Lucy Wylie and Hannah Ebbings. Based on Bidjigal, Gadigal, and Wangal land in Sydney / Australia, we acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and uphold values of solidarity as we live and write on the lands and waterways of First Nations people. Riverstone was named to recognise the beauty and importance of the Tucoerah (a.k.a. the Georges River) and bring awareness to conservation of the river’s health. Organisations such as Georges Riverkeeper and the Oatley Flora and Fauna Conservation Society work hard to protect the health of our local natural environment.
Mission Statement
Riverstone has a foundation in celebrating emerging writers in Australia with a connection to land, water, and nature.
We particularly wish to platform writers who identify as queer, First Nations, BIPOC, belonging to underrepresented or diverse genders, and writers with a disability. Additionally, this is a place to develop connection within literary communities and to experiment with form, practice, and ways of being.
Our open mic nights that run in tandem with issue launches are a safe space to grow and meet community, to share and be vulnerable, and for queerness and poetics thrive.
Riverstone stands in unequivocal solidarity with the people of Palestine. Riverstone stands in solidarity with First Nations and Indigenous people all over the world in their fight against western colonial imperialism and towards land back, justice, and liberation.
