Holding Space
Oh how you move me
You
Vast and immeasurable darkness
Infinite velveteen blackness
Some say we are made of stars
I beg - we are made of the universe
The one melody,
whose wave
weaves the warp to the weft of the tangible
A thread between threads
Smaller than light
Lighter than air
Because all matter
All that matters
- as matter with mind minds it does -
Is more than 99% emptiness.. (echo) emptiness .. emptiness ..
Protons, neutrons, electrons and
SPACE
Our mattering minds made science
So our form-shifting lips could spell words
to call this atomic eternity
some essence of being
And if it is matter that matters
and in a grandiose way - matter
is nothingness
Then my aching heart can be hollowed
And my bones may break like bread
to make light
And when I die
If indeed one could say I had ever been born
When my fleshen fibre is critter fodder
my bony mineral turned to dust
When my breath becomes air
my blood-red rivers drain to aquifers
And all remaining in my place
is
the space between
You could say I never left
or that
No matter whereto or whence
All matter is space
While we are
75% atmospheric River, or water fall, or tidal wave
And our tears have been dewdrops
And our brain bathes in fluid
passed through lips and beaks and membranes
in infinite regress
We often fail to make mirror and see
the unquestionable of
our constitution -
matter that has masqueraded
charaded in meaning
before it was 'ours'
Because if it comes from the earth, and the stars, the rivers and the breeze
And when I am done and dug and dusted
It returns to her
I see
I held her just for a moment
Or perhaps more accurately she held me
And what did she hold?
